Miles is a by-product of the nurse mare industry in Canada. These farms breed mares that then have their own foals taken away so that they can be shipped to other farms in order to raise high dollar foals whose mother's either need to go back to work or be re-bred immediately. Miles was brought to Virginia by an organization that takes in groups of these orphans and bottle raises them before placing them. However, they had too many babies and Miles wasn't quite taken care of properly and arrived at the Equine Rescue League as a very scrawny, undernourished yearling. An inappropriately adjusted halter left Miles with a permanent bone deformity and lump on his nose. However, it is only cosmetic.
When the ERL lost their farm and had to downsize to smaller acreage, they asked us to take Miles into our program. Here he has grown into a handsome young man and flourished in our care. He has taken to his under saddle training and loves to meet new people. He is quite the prankster and loves to be the center of attention at all times. He is quickly becoming a favorite herd member here with his goofy antics and good natured charm! He even works with special needs kids and participates in a variety of our programs!
