We are working hard to raise a modest $5000 before the end of December to support our winter hay and feed fund.
Your donations directly support the residents at the farm and allow us to continue to provide top quality care while they provide opportunity for meaningful interactions with members of our community! We are a small, volunteer based non profit that directly serves our extended community by offerring meaningful experiences and interactions with our resident horses, ponies, minis AND pigs! Our dedicated outreach team attends public events and works with schools to bring horses out into the neighborhoods in order to reach more people. The end of the year is coming and your donations are tax deductible as allowed by law.
Make a donation by December 31st and be entered to WIN a limited edition teeshirt and necklace!

Mia and Justin, The Beginning Of The Big Purple Barn
This is Mia and Justin....the two horses that started it all for us. They were seized by humane officers along with over 30 other Morgan horses in Stafford County, Virginia in 1990 and placed in the care of the Equine Rescue League where we adopted Mia in 1991 and Justin in 1992. Due to years of extensive abuse and neglect, Justin was permanently scarred emotionally and physically. He was never able to be ridden, but that didn't stop him from being a fantastic halter horse in conformation and showmanship with Barbara as the two won numerous ribbons and championships through the years. He was always kind and wise and a wonderful ambassador for his breed. He inspired us to change the way we thought of horses and their roles in our lives and along with Mia, became our inspiration for The Big Purple Barn. Justin fought his way through a significant colic surgery, an eye removal (due to a squamous cell carcinoma) and subsequent tumor removals on his genitals. Throughout his 20+ years with us, he was patient and gentle and brave. We miss his wise face and gentle character, but we know he is up there, watching over us and guiding us as we work to help more horses in need. Mia (who is actually Justin's daughter) is still with us at the age of 27 and continuing to educate and inspire. Please make a donation to The Big Purple Barn and help us continue to care for the residents who find their way into our care. Your contributions will help our organization continue to help horses, like Justin, and to help people connect with them. While we never saw the world from atop his back, we are humbled to have walked bedside him. We are a 501C3 organization and your contributions are tax deductible. EVERY PENNY COUNTS! Thank you for your generous support....Tara and Barbara, Co-Founders
